Imagine the possibilities as you explore a stunning visualisation of a 3D digital world generated from archaeological and paleo-environmental data. It already exists, but needs your help in order to make it freely available to the world.
A virtual prehistoric world
This project offers a visual representation of what is known about an ancient landscape, combining detailed archaeological and scientific data with cutting edge digital recording and visualisation techniques to produce a virtual world, but so real that the past and present become one.
The world you will enter is over 3500 years ago; the Bronze Age of East Anglia, UK and focuses on an area known to be of great ritual significance during this period.
A liminal wetland environment
The landscape is a liminal wetland environment and what you will be able to explore has been generated entirely digitally. The archaeology has been painstakingly reconstructed from evidence found on sites in the area; round houses, wooden platforms, track ways, fences and even the great causeway structures of Flag Fen are all present.
The Project has already completed much of the 3D modelling and this world exists on a computer hard drive as you can see from the stunning images. However, at the moment there is currently no way for anyone to visit this place and explore the past in a realistic virtual world. Currently the team headed by Marcus Abbott have a limited QTVR as a test and also a short fly through, but would like to offer a far more interactive narrative to the landscape.
With your help to achieve a modest budget target of £800 they can build an interface and host this stunning prehistoric world.
An interface with the past
Their idea is to create an online experience using the archaeological material, allowing free access to the world so that others can experience and learn about our current understanding of this landscape and produce a story through which the visitor can experience the landscape. The story focuses around a lone traveller who comes upon this landscape for the first time.
The story will be told by developing interactive 360 degree video panoramas and directional sound. The interactive elements will be mixed in with animation and video to create a unique way of exploring the past.
If the team can raise more than the target funding they can expand the landscape even further North. Their lone traveller and online visitors will be able explore an extended landscape and already they have concept images that illustrate when the traveller first encounters a standing stone.
To open up this past world to the public they need your help.
Sponsor them here. They only need £800 and you can bring the past back to life!
